The Federal Motor Carrier Service Administration (FMCSA), part of the Department of Transportation (DOT), lays out regulations for drivers of commercial vehicles that define their permissible number of driving hours per day and the number of on-duty hours per week. These rules, called Hours of Service (HOS) rules, provide an essential framework for how drivers must structure their driving and work time.

Everyone is familiar with the 10 hour rule for passenger carriers, where a driver may drive a maximum of 10 hours after 8 consecutive hours off duty. But are you familiar with all of the applicable exceptions and exemptions? Are you documenting them properly? While overall, HOS violations have decreased in recent years, this session will help you prepare for your next compliance review, investigation or roadside inspection.
