100 years of American Bus Association

100 Years of Progress

From the early days of intercity travel to today’s diverse group travel market, The American Bus Association has been there through every twist and turn.

A timeline charting 100 years of ABA. The timeline starts at 1926, when the ABA started as the Motorbus Division at AAA. In 1929 we were known as National Association of Motorbus Operators at AAA. In 1960 we were known as the National Association of Motorbus Owners. In 1977 we became the American Bus Association.

Committed to the Next Century

We’re building on 100 years of progress with a renewed focus driven by our strategic plan.

Stay ahead of bus industry challenges to advocate for fair, equitable legislation and policy changes—ensuring every ABA member has their voice heard and represented.

Nurture entry-level and emerging talent with tailored training and networking opportunities, so businesses stay resilient during leadership transitions.

Identify the greatest opportunities to support ABA members and provide dynamic support and benefits that provide immediate, lasting value.

Protect our communities and natural spaces so they can be enjoyed for generations to come, while finding ways to make bus and group tour travel an even more environmentally friendly option accessible to all.
