Welcome to the WIB Book Club – Reinstated and Ready for “Remarkably Bright Creatures”

Hello and welcome to the Women in Buses (WIB) Book Club! We’re thrilled to announce the reinstatement of our book club, and we’re diving back in with a fantastic new read: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. This novel has received rave reviews and is perfect for our summer reading series. We invite you to join us for engaging discussions and insightful reflections on this highly acclaimed book.

Book Club Goals

Our goals for the reinstated WIB Book Club are simple yet impactful:

1. Enjoy a Top-Rated Novel: Embrace a feel-good, thought-provoking book perfect for summer. Remarkably Bright Creatures promises to be an enjoyable and uplifting read.
2. Foster Connections: Engage in meaningful discussions with current and new industry friends. This is an opportunity to connect on a different level and enrich our professional relationships.
3. Have Fun and Read Together: Our ultimate aim is to enjoy our time together and foster a love for reading that will encourage us to continue with future book selections.

Meeting Details

To ensure a relaxed and enjoyable experience, our book club meetings are scheduled as follows:

• Mid-Point Discussion: Thursday, August 15, at 12:30 PM Eastern. We’ll discuss the book’s content up to the chapter titled “Conscience Does Make Cowards of Us All.”
• Final Discussion: Thursday, August 29, at 12:30 PM Eastern. We’ll cover the chapters from “Expect the Unexpected” through the end of the book.

Meeting Format: Since we currently don’t have an official facilitator, I will serve as the moderator for our Zoom discussions. A few days before each meeting, a set of interesting and thought-provoking discussion questions will be emailed. Our discussions will focus on broader topics like characters, themes, and life lessons rather than going chapter by chapter.

Timeline and Book Purchasing

• Purchase the Book: Ensure you have your copy of Remarkably Bright Creatures by Friday, July 19. The book is on sale during Prime Day – hardcover for $14.92 and Kindle edition for $1.99. Note that the paperback is not available until 2025. Many Targets also carry the book for $18.65.
• Start Reading: Begin reading as soon as you get your hands on the book. Use the time before our first meetup to take notes or jot down your thoughts.
• Discussion Preparation: Use the time before our meetings to prepare. Feel free to note down any reflections or questions you have about the book.
