Insider Exclusive: TSA Pre✓® Saves You Time and Stress

By Marc Lerro

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) offered enrollment services into their trusted traveler program, TSA Pre✓®, during this year’s ABA 2017 Annual Meeting & Marketplace in Cleveland, Jan. 13–17. Attendees received an in-depth look at how TSA Pre✓® makes flying faster, easier, and less stressful inside a TSA-branded RV. Almost 200 people enrolled, joining more than 13 million trusted travelers nationwide. This was the first TSA Pre✓® enrollment event focusing on the (surface/bus/motor coach/operator) industry. TSA officials recognized that most travelers use multiple modes of transportation for business and pleasure and wanted to offer the ABA enrollment event to help raise awareness of trusted traveler programs.

“I used my TSA Pre✓® on my last flight and it was wonderful,” says The Insider’s Senior Editor Pamela Brossman, who joined at the ABA meeting.

Adding a known traveler number (KTN) to an airline reservation and seeing “TSA Pre✓®” on a boarding pass means there’s no need to remove laptops, liquids, light jackets, belts, or shoes at security checkpoints at more than 190 U.S. airports. Nearly 95 percent of TSA Pre✓® passengers spent less than five minutes in line.

“TSA is pleased to have participated in ABA’s 2017 Annual Meeting & Marketplace and thanks ABA for their support of TSA’s marketing efforts to promote enrollment in TSA Pre✓®,” says TSA Marketing Director Jerry Koehler.

Applying for TSA Pre✓® is also quick and easy—a 5-minute online application, then a 10-minute in-person appointment at an enrollment center near you. Five years of membership costs only $85 and most travelers are approved within several days. Members of Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI may use their PASS ID for TSA Pre✓® when making reservations, so there’s no need to join more than one program.
