Insider Exclusive: Clever Group Tours: ABA Members Share Their Favorite New Finds

By: ABA Media

The Insider recently posed the following industry question to several ABA members: “What’s the most clever or original group tour idea you’ve seen recently?”

Here is what our members had to say:

“I love Ambassadair’s new ArtPrize itinerary! They’ve built in freedom to explore a citywide arts competition while still keeping the structure of a tour. This kind of event is hard to navigate as a solo traveler, so they have created a tour to help navigate this otherwise confusing, smartphone enabled, public-voting competition.”

“The most original group tour I’ve heard of recently is something the Titanic Museum in Branson is doing. It’s what this ABA member calls A Night at the Titanic Museum Flashlight Tour. For certain nights during 2019, a Titanic crew member will guide the way for guests. Everyone will get an official complimentary Titanic flashlight ‘to help shed light on a maze of Titanic myths, mysteries, legends, and facts.’ There’s limited space on each tour. The museum tested the tour for six nights this past June and July, and each night sold out. No wonder the museum is calling it a ‘new Titanic event!’”

“There are a record number of people attending political rallies. The majority of those attending would rather purchase bus tickets than deal with the traffic and parking. The problem with these trips is the short time frame to sell tickets since these rallies can appear within days or weeks of a social media announcement. Also, instead of wine tours, companies are offering marijuana tours. Both are interesting ideas.”

“The Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival, coordinated by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, was lucky enough to have a group leader from Pennsylvania who created a unique five-day Hydrangea Fest itinerary. The itinerary included visits to seven local gardens, garden centers, and many beauty spots on Cape Cod. They also enjoyed the Hydrangea Cocktail Trail, wine and cheese parties, and visited many locally owned restaurants. Their next stop was Nantucket with a visit to five gardens and the Nantucket Whaling Museum. The group even took home a little Cape Cod: hydrangea plants!”

“The most original group tour idea I’ve seen recently is allowing dogs to travel with their owners on pet-friendly motorcoach tours. Since Asheville is incredibly pet-friendly, I think it’s a great idea! Plus, who wants to leave their furry best friend at home?”
