ABA’s CTIS Program Helps Industry Professionals Take Their Education to the Next Level

The motorcoach, travel and tourism industry is constantly evolving. What once worked years ago as a go-to business model is changing as new generation of passengers want our help in planning their precious leisure time. With that end, industry professionals need to be flexible and relevant in their business.

Understanding that you are working a full-time job, have life commitments outside of work but that you want to continue to grow as a professional, ABA partnered with Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) to develop the Certified Travel Industry Specialist program. This program was created for you - the busy professional - to be industry specific, relevant and flexible.

The CTIS correspondence courses are administered by IUPUI’s highly acclaimed professional staff. These rigorous, demanding but essential courses, designed exclusively for the motorcoach and group tour industry, introduce you to new concepts in the industry and expand your professional and personal skills.

"The CTIS program has opened many doors for me and has taught me how to market myself to better obtain business," said Sue Briggs, CTIS, owner of Destinations Plus in Silver Creek, N.Y. "The program is for the very small to the very large company.  Anyone who is in the program will benefit greatly from becoming a CTIS graduate. It has certainly given me an edge over my competitors."

This professional development program is available to any employee of an ABA member organization. Participants complete five correspondence courses over a year and attended and evaluated eight industry advancement seminars presented by Marketplace.

Since its inception in 1989, 770 ABA members have earned this prestigious designation.

Obtaining a CTIS has not only helped graduates themselves but also their businesses by teaching students core business practices such as customer service; promoting your business; and business grammar and writing. Students have also taken courses in personal organization and effectiveness; igniting your effectiveness by improving your sales skills; effective advertising; and key concepts of running a successful business.

The certification shows a personal commitment to excellence in our industry and the lessons and principles presented in the program have led to measurable improvements in our company," said Brad Henton, CTIS, associate director at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tenn.

The best part about the CTIS course and designation is that it doesn't matter how long you have been in the industry, you will learn something that takes your business to the next level.
