ABA Statement Regarding Budget Cuts to Missouri’s State, Local Travel and Tourism Offices

A statement from ABA President Peter Pantuso on an article citing Missouri as another state that has short-sightedly cut state and local travel and tourism offices' budgets.

"We continue to be alarmed at the trend on the state level of cutting the budgets of state tourism offices, funding that brings visitors to the state and helps boost the economy and provide jobs," said Pantuso. "These short-term budgetary fixes may have long-term effects on states that rely on tourism dollars to pay for many state-sponsored programs. The tourism industry is worth $1.6 trillion in economic output and supports 7.6 million jobs, states who do not actively market to potential visitors will end up losing a their share of potential revenue."
