This week when the ABA Marketplace Advisory Committee and the Education, Orientation, Resource Central Subcommittees met in Omaha to plan the 2020 Marketplace it did so on a somber note.
Flying into Omaha one was struck with the realities of the wide-scale devastating flooding that has occurred throughout Nebraska and right up to the city limits of Omaha.
However, with a deep history of the travel and tourism community coming together to help its brethren out, the ABA member committees did what ABA does best ... gave back.
With the leadership of ABA Board Member, Vice Chair of the ABA Foundation and long-time MAC member John Percy, president and CEO of Niagara Falls USA, the members of the committees raised during the two-day meeting and donated $1,500 to Scatter Joy Acres, a local charity that helped Nebraskans who have been affected by the raging waters save their livestock and pets.
Percy said he was moved while flying over the area to kick start a collection. “You see this on the news and think it is blown out of proportion but to see it up close your heart just breaks for the people who have literally lost everything.”
Percy raffled off a two-night package to Niagara Falls USA with all the attractions included to the committee members. Matt Heck from Visit Omaha won the package.
“Our members are so generous and have always opened their hearts and wallets to those in need,” said Peter Pantuso, ABA president & CEO. “Every year we name a local charity for ABA Gives Back during Marketplace. This week was a special coming together without any hesitation once everyone got together for the meeting.”
ABA and its members will gather in Omaha for its 2020 Marketplace, Jan. 10-14. For more information about #ABAOmaha, visit www.buses.org.
