Today the American Bus Association Foundation (ABAF) released the fourth quarter/full year 2017 Motorcoach Builder Survey. Based on surveys of the major motorcoach manufacturers that sell vehicles in the United States and Canada, motorcoach sales from the participating manufacturers saw a 9.7 percent* increase over the same quarter in 2016 to a total of 1238 units (738 new coaches and 500 pre-owned coaches.)
“The industry had a very positive fourth quarter and year over year,” said Peter Pantuso, president & CEO of the ABA Foundation. “We saw a 4 percent increase over last year as a whole and that mimics what is going on within the group travel and tourism industry. We providing more than 600 million passenger trips annually and our customers can be assured our companies are supplying them with newer, upgraded motorcoaches.”
For 2017, the 45-foot sales saw the biggest gains – 7.5 percent increase over 2016. Year over year, the growth for all sizes of motorcoaches was 4.0 percent with 2,423 new coaches and 1,313 pre-owned coaches purchased in 2017.
*These data represent results for five major motorcoach manufacturers as reported in a quarterly survey. During the fourth quarter of 2017 one of the manufacturers was not able to participate. The data for the first three quarters represent the results from the five companies, while those in the fourth quarter represent from only four.
