On June 5, 2026, ABA submitted a letter for the record following the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation’s June 4th hearing, “Connecting Rural America to the National Airspace System.” In the letter, ABA thanked Chairman Troy Nehls and Ranking Member André Carson for focusing on aviation access and rural connectivity, while emphasizing that private motorcoaches should be viewed as a willing and capable partner in strengthening the broader aviation transportation network.
The letter highlighted ABA’s recent engagement with the Transportation Security Administration regarding the emerging off-site screening and secure transportation model being advanced in Massachusetts in connection with Massport’s new Logan Airport Remote Terminal at Framingham. ABA noted that this model could help create additional “front doors” into the aviation system by reducing congestion, improving passenger flow, strengthening the traveler experience, and supporting airport efficiency. ABA also emphasized that private motorcoaches already connect airports, rural communities, regional hubs, universities, military installations, tourist destinations, and major events, and could play an expanded role if supported by the right federal coordination and security framework.
ABA encouraged the Subcommittee to continue evaluating how off-site screening and secure motorcoach transportation could support aviation access, airport congestion relief, and rural connectivity. The letter explained that this concept should not be viewed as a replacement for commercial air service but as a complementary tool to help passengers reach the aviation system more efficiently. ABA also expressed interest in working with Congress, TSA, DOT, FAA, airports, and airlines to better understand how such a model could be scaled responsibly, including questions around operator eligibility, security standards, credentialing, vehicle security, passenger and baggage screening, and clear criteria for trusted private transportation providers.
