Washington, DC, December 21, 2006 -- The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration must consider whether bus companies are complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act when granting them operating authority, a federal appeals court has ruled. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C Circuit reversed the FMCSA and sent the case back to the agency. Fung Wah, a popular "curbside carrier" in the Northeast, operates charters at a low cost. But according to evidence provided by Peter Pan, Fung Wah fails to comply with the 1990 federal law. |

Washington, DC, December 12, 2006 -- Members of the American Bus Association received nearly $7 million from the Department of Transportation in grant monies that would allow bus operators to provide wheelchair accessible coaches for their passengers. Through the DOT's Federal Transit Administration, the Over-the-Road Bus Accessibility Program will make available nearly $7.5 million for intercity fixed route operators and other types (local fixed route, charter, tour, commuter and special operations) of bus operators in FY 2006 grants. In all, ABA members have received more than 90 percent of the grants awarded to the motorcoach industry over the past 6 years. |

(October 26, 2006,Washington, D.C.) - American Bus Association Foundation is reaching out to rural and small-town Americans. In 2007, the ABA Foundation will offer a research grant topic specific to rural intercity motorcoach transportation. The ABA Foundation offers two $2,500 research grants to graduate students currently working towards a specialized degree in a transportation, travel, or tourism field of study. The addition of this topic is an effort on the part of the Foundation to add to the continuum of rural transportation research information. In conjunction with our research grant the Foundation will offer a scholarship for interested students to travel and attend the National Rural Public and Intercity Bus Conference taking place in 2008. |

Motorcoach Census 2005 is the first industry census since 1999 that looks at passenger traffic, vehicle count, mileage, demographics and other key data in the U.S. and Canada. Motorcoach Census 2005 is supplemented by Motorcoach Census 2006 Update, a "mini survey" that polls the industry on three key factors & passenger traffic, vehicle count, and mileage. |

Washington, DC, March 24, 2006 - Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority could lose more than $600,000 due to a ruling announced earlier this week that cited the transit agency for violations of the FTA charter bus rules. The decision was announced in American Bus Association, Inc. v. Akron Metro Regional Transit Authority, Charter Service Docket No. 2005-05, March 22, 2006. This is the first time that the FTA has used its new discretion in SAFETEA-LU, the 2005 highway and transit funding bill, to withhold funds from a transit agency for violations of the charter bus regulations. The Federal Transit Administration Regional Administrator in Chicago issued the decision. |
