In addition to convincing Congress to strengthen the laws on enforcement of the FTA's charter bus regulations, ABA is taking an aggressive stance against transit agencies that violate the charter rules.
The new highway bill includes provisions that require the FTA to:
- Investigate complaints and decide whether a violation has occurred;
- Correct the violation under the terms of the FTA funding agreement with the violating transit agency; and
- Bar a recipient from receiving federal transit funds in an amount that FTA deems appropriate if there is a pattern of violations.
