In December 2004 the ABA Foundation Board of Governors voted to establish Honorary Funds where individuals and corporations could contribute to a scholarship or research fund in honor or in memory of someone in the industry. The funds are administered by the ABA Foundation as part of George T. Snyder Scholarship Program.

Honorary Fund Criteria - Donors must contribute a minimum of $30,000 to establish the fund in the name of the individual or organization they chose. Once the fund reaches in excess of $40,000 the Foundation may begin to issue a new $2,500 scholarship, either in accordance with the criteria established in the existing scholarship programs, or, with criteria specific to that fund as agreed to by the Foundation. Alternatively, funds can be directed to research grants in a designated amount ($2,500 or less).
