Clyde J. Hart Jr. has been with ABA since 2001. He works with Congress and with state and local transportation legislators and officials to implement legislation and regulations to support the bus industry. He also is in charge of developing policy for the industry. During his tenure as Clyde was instrumental in ensuring that under SAFETEA-LU private over-the-road bus companies were given access to federal funds for safety initiatives and that bus terminals were made fully eligible for federal funding. He oversaw ABA's successful efforts to increase funds for motorcoach security and wheelchair lifts to allow bus companies to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In addition, Clyde was an integral part of the private bus industry team which negotiated a more equitable Federal Transit Administration (FTA) charter bus regulation. His work has won him several awards including one as a lobbyist of the year by the Capital Hill newspaper. Prior to joining the ABA Clyde served as Administrator of the U.S. Maritime Administration and led the FMCSA during its formation. Clyde served the Interstate Commerce Commission as a trial attorney and as management counsel and he served as Senior Counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation where he was involved in the development and enactment of legislation concerning transportation reauthorization, the National Highway System, The Maritime Security Program and the Interstate Commerce Commission Termination Act. Clyde is a veteran of the United States Air Force, and resides with his wife Lauralee in the District of Columbia.
