FESTIVAL ACADIEN DE CARAQUET
Festival Acadien de Caraquet
Caraquet, New Brunswick

August 1 - 15

Even without this festival, the French influence on maritime Canada is clearly evident. Last year alone, about 100,000 visitors descended on Caraquet, population 5,000, to celebrate its Acadian heritage during this 15-day event. The festival includes a series of concerts, shows, and tradional Acadian activities (Tintamarre, Blessing of the fishing fleet, etc.) culminating with the Acadian Day on Aug. 15. It features between 200 and 400 artists annually, mostly pop singers, but also classical, jazz, Latino, and other musicians, as well as visual artists, theater performers, and those pursuing other art forms. Most featured artists are Acadians from New-Brunswick, Louisiana, and Europe. Many events are free.

Other attractions: Acadian Historical Village, Aquarium and Marine Center, Popes Museum, fishing tours, other museums
